On Saturday May 16th People Helping People conducted a free dental clinic furnishing services to low income children. A team led by former Santa Ynez Valley resident Dr. Mark Shultz and Dr. Luz Cubillos furnished sealants and fluoride varnishes to 51children ages 2 to 15. Ninety sealants and 49 fluoride varnishes were completed.

Drs. Schultz and Cubillos were assisted by a team of dental hygienists and assistants that included Dr. Shultz’s daughter, Jessica Schultz, R.D.H, as well as Marie M. Crews, R.D.H, and Angel R. Barajas, D.A.

The clinic received financial support from the Salvation Army of Oxnard- Port Hueneme- Camarillo who paid for one-half of the needed supplies for the clinic. Registration staff was furnished by PHP and the balance of costs were paid from the PHP Children’s dental Fund.

PHP has operated a “revolving” Children’s Dental Fund program for nearly 15 years with the goal of ensuring that children have quality dental care so that they are healthy and ready to succeed in school. According to PHP’s literature, the Children’s Dental Fund is supported by local dentists who charge low fees to PHP in order to furnish dental treatment to uninsured children. Families then pay PHP back in monthly payments on a sliding scale dependent upon income.
