On Wednesday, October 1st at 5:00 PM, Figueroa Mountain Brewing in Buellton will host a special “Tap Handle” fundraiser for People Helping People (PHP). In addition to raising money for the PHP Food Program, this evening is also planned to promote PHP’s 14th Annual Empty Bowls Campaign to Fight Hunger. The Empty Bowls Campaign scheduled later in October also raises money to support PHP’s food program which delivers more than 260,000 pounds of food per year to feed nearly 1,100 individuals in the Santa Ynez and Los Alamos Valleys.

“Fig.” has generously offered to donate a portion of their proceeds on October 1st to PHP, so we are asking the community to join us at the brewery and support our local fight against hunger,” said Erica Valdes, PHP’s Development Associate. “I think most community members don’t realize how many people in the Valley, especially children, suffer from food insecurity, not knowing at some time each month where the next meal will come from. A look at our schools’ burgeoning free and reduced lunch programs, tell the story. Nearly 50% of local children get their main nutrition at school.”

According to Valdes, the brewery is a family friendly environment and food and soft drinks will be available in addition to the many beers that Fig produces. Food will be prepared and sold by Beto’s Place who will also be donating to PHP. PHP will be selling raffle tickets for a drawing on October 21st. Prizes include a private dinner for 8 prepared and served in your home and 2 VIP tickets to the 2015 Polo Classic, valued at $1,000 and $500 respectively.

PHP staff will be present at the fundraiser to meet and greet patrons, offer information, and answer questions about the Food and other PHP programs and services.

Figueroa will be following up its event on October 1st with “Tap Handle” fundraisers for PHP on the three succeeding Wednesdays in October. PHP’s primary Empty Bowls fundraiser, the 14th Annual Dine and Donate will be held on October 16th. PHP’s Valdes said that they expect 15-20 restaurants and tasting rooms to donate a percentage of their proceeds on that date to the Food Program.
